Water Regularly: Amorphophallus Hewittii love water during its active growing period. Water and fertilize regularly for best results.

Soil in Active Growth: Provide a well-draining chunky soil and keep it constantly slightly moist. When the plant goes into a rest phase, keep the soil a bit less moist.

*The goal for Amorphophallus Hewittii Care is to keep these tubers hydrated without being consistently immersed in a soggy moist medium.

Sun: This species prefers light sun and a humid environment.

Treatment:

When a soft spot is detected, carve out the soft infected areas up until you see only fresh flesh of the corm. Then brush over Sulfur Fungicide Powder and leave in a sunny area so the wound(s) can dry and scarify quickly. Be sure to keep away from potential pest infestations.

If you find that some spots are taking longer to dry and have any concerns whether it may still be compromised, carve back that area as quickly as possible and repeat the treatment process in that area. Once, the wounded areas are completely firm dry, the tuber can be returned to the soil.

Amorphophallus Hewittii Info.

Amorphophallus Hewittii grows in the tropical rain forests of Borneo. This specie is considered one of the larger of its genus.

It is often confused with and compared to Amorphophallus Titanum due to it massive size. Every year, a leaf emerges from it’s underground tuber. It actively grows for several months before dropping it’s leaf to rest. When mature, the leaf can reach up to 12 ft in height.

Once the underground tuber of this plant has stored enough energy, it will produce a spectacular flower. The inflorescence alone can reach a height of 4-5 ft tall. Along with the stalk, the Amorphophallus Hewittii inflorescence can reach up to approximately 9 ft tall. The flower is pollinated by flies who are attracted to the rotting stench of the bloom. The plant flowers for only 2 or 3 days, then it either goes into a rest period or puts out a leaf. The plant typically goes through a rest period once a year for about 4 months. The plant reportedly flowers every three years in May.
